Job Description Summary

Under general direction, assists with the oversight of water production activities, water sampling, and state reporting ensuring safe and reliable potable water, along with assisting in supervising water operations.    Work varies requiring interpretive judgment within prescribed standards and procedures.


Job Responsibilities

Assist in the scheduling and supervision of water operations and sewer collection employees to install water services, repair leaks and main breaks, set up utilities locates, coordinate work on paving projects and new building sites, management of personnel on emergency main breaks, sewer repairs, line stopping, barricading, and traffic control.  Determine staffing needs, qualifications, and staffing patterns according to operating requirements.  Plan, schedule and assign well and pump maintenance, meter reading, repair and installation, water connections and disconnections, and SCADA maintenance.  Responsible for the collection, review and recording of water quality samples, maintaining quality records and reports to ensure compliance. Develop preventative maintenance and divisional inventory programs, complete work orders, assist with managing expenditures, and prepare specifications for the purchasing of equipment.  Respond to phone calls, investigate and resolve problems and customer concerns.  Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education & Requirements

High school diploma/GED with experience equivalent to five years providing a public water supply, water and sewer system distribution, maintenance, and construction. Knowledge of the maintenance and operations of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, including two years as supervisor. Ability to obtain a Nebraska Water Operator I and Nebraska Grade VI Backflow certificate within 12 months of hire.   Must possess a Nebraska driver’s license.
